Those hot, dark flames

私の身体からだをけがし燃え盛る

watashi no karada o kegashi moesakaru

The twilight of dusk left me forsaken,

A long, long time ago,

この村の近くには大きな森があって、

kono mura no chikaku ni wa ōkina mori ga atte,

there was a large forest near this village

そこには精霊の宿った

soko ni wa seirei no yadotta

where stood a large, old tree

古いおおきな木がありました。

furui ōkina ki ga arimashita.

in which dwelt a nymph.

精霊はひとり、

seirei wa hitori,

The nymph lived

さみしい時間を生きました。

samishii jikan o ikimashita.

her lonely days by herself.

そんなある日、一人の少年に出会い

sonna aru hi, hitori no shōnen ni deai

On one such day, she met a boy

「感情」を知るのでした。

"kanjō" o shiru no deshita.

and discovered "emotion".

精霊は長い年月を生き、

seirei wa nagai nengetsu o iki,

The nymph lived many long years

初めて恋を知ったのです。

hajimete koi o shitta no desu.

国中で戦争がはじまりました。

少年は燃えた森を見て

Seeing the forest aflame, the boy

痛みも忘れて彼女を助けました。

itami mo wasurete kanojo o tasukemashita.

ignored his very pain and helped her.

しかし彼女を助けた代わりに、

shikashi kanojo o tasuketa kawari ni,

In exchange for helping her, however,

彼は森の中で死んでしまいます。

kare wa mori no naka de shinde shimaimasu.

he ends up dying in the forest.

彼を生き返らせたのです。
