あぜ道アキアカネ

azemichi akiakane

Among the rice fields, red dragonflies

羽化したての羽広げ

uka shitate no hane hiroge

will emerge, spread their wings,

朝日にキラキラと

asahi ni kirakira to

glisten in the morning sunlight

飛び立つでしょう

tobitatsu deshō

and take off

旅立つの君の横

tabidatsu kimi no yoko

I'm next to you when you begin a trip

自らを試すように

mizukara o tamesu yō ni

as if to test yourself

古びた殻脱いで

furubita kara nuide

coming out of your worn-out shell

希望に満ちて

kibō ni michite

filled with hope

上を上を上を　目指して　みんなして

ue o ue o ue o mezashite minna shite

Aiming for the top top top with everyone

高く高く高く　どこまで　飛んでいく

takaku takaku takaku doko made tonde iku

you fly up as high, high, high as it takes

誰よりも　高くまで　昇りつめたい

dare yori mo takaku made noboritsumetai

You want to reach higher than anyone

何かに　せき立てられて

nanika ni sekitaterarete

urged on by something

アキアカネは　暑さを避け

akiakane wa atsusa o sake

Red dragonflies avoid the heat

高地を　目指すのです

kōchi o mezasu no desu

and aim for high ground

そこで秋まで　過ごし

soko de aki made sugoshi

They spend their time there until autumn

深い色合いに　成熟

fukai iroai ni seijuku

when their deep colouring reaches maturity

したら　大人になって

shitara otona ni natte

Doing so, they grow up

生まれ育った　故郷

umaresodatta kokyō

and fondly recall

懐かしく　思い出す　ああ

natsukashiku omoidasu ā

the place where they were raised Ah

帰りたくなる

kaeritaku naru

They find they want to go back

君と見たアキアカネ

kimi to mita akiakane

The red dragonflies I saw with you

透き通る羽広げ

sukitōru hane hiroge

spread their see-through wings

無邪気な君に似て

mujaki na kimi ni nite

and resemble you, innocent

くもりも知らず

kumori mo shirazu

and ignorant of gloom

大人になる事は

otona ni naru koto wa

Growing up involves

傷も痛みも知る事

kizu mo itami mo shiru koto

finding out about wounds and pain

本当は全てから

to protect you from it all
