遠い空に入道雲

Tōi sora ni nyūdōgumo

There were huge clouds far away in the sky.

夏草がそっと揺らめいた

Natsukusa ga sotto yurameita

The summer grass gently swayed.

姿見えぬ鳥達の

Sugata mienu toritachi no

Unseen birds'

囀さえずりが響いた

saezuri ga hibiita

chirping echoed.

手を繋つなぎ　歩いたね　あの夏も

Te o tsunagi aruita ne ano natsu mo

That summer too we walked hand in hand

鬼灯　続く道

hoozuki tsuzuku michi

along the path with the ground cherries.

迷子の　子猫も　大きくなった

Maigo no koneko mo ōkiku natta

The stray kitten has also grown.

もうだいぶ　落ち着いてきたね

Mō daibu ochitsuite kita ne

It's calmed down a lot, hasn’t it?

吹き抜く風が　窓辺へ誘う

Fukinuku kaze ga madobe e sasou

The breeze coming through the window invites me over.

今年もまた夏が来た

Kotoshi mo mata natsu ga kita

Summer has come this year again.

川遊びをしよう　ねえ君と

Kawaasobi o shiyō nē kimi to

Hey, let's play at the river, you and I.

澄んだ川面に　思い出映そう

Sunda kawamo ni omoide utsusō

Let's reflect memories on its clear surface.

夏化粧に染まる　里山の

Natsu keshō ni somaru satoyama no

Hey, let's hold hands on the windy path

風の通り道で　手を繋つなごう

kaze no tōrimichi de te o tsunagō

through the summer-painted mountains,

you and I together.

カラリ　チリリ　涼を唄う

Karari chiriri ryō o utau

With a clatter and tinkle, they sing of the cool,

汗かきグラスと風鈴の音

asekaki gurasu to fūrin no ne

the frosty glasses and the tones of the windchime.

When we looked up at the sky, the fireworks had started.

Summer has come this year again.

響く花火に　思い出咲かそう
