ある日の空の高さに水はゆらめき

aru hi no sora no takasa ni mizu wa yurameki

The water flickers beneath the sky high above that day

雨もない凪のなかでかすかにはじける

ame mo nai nagi no naka de kasuka ni hajikeru

and subtly agitates in the calm with nary a raindrop.

露をまとう木々に

tsuyu o matou kigi ni

In trees clad with dew,

甘い蜜の色

amai mitsu no iro

the colour of sweet honey.

明日には残せない

ashita ni wa nokosenai

Thoughts, feelings and words that I am unable

想いも言葉も乾いてしまう

omoi mo kotoba mo kawaite shimau

to leave for tomorrow dry up.

羽ばたく鳥を映して水がゆらめく

habataku tori o utsushite mizu ga yurameku

Water flickers, reflecting birds flapping their wings.

飛べない人も羽を負う淡海のほとり

tobenai hito mo ha o ou awaumi no hotori

A person who cannot fly also sports wings at the lakeside.

遥かな街の記憶は屋根に滴り

haruka na machi no kioku wa yane ni shitatari

Memories of a far-away town trickle from a roof,

日暮れゆく部屋でひとり地図をただなぞる

higureyuku heya de hitori chizu o tada nazoru

while as the sun sets, alone in a room I merely trace a map.

絹を解いた糸に

kinu o toita ito ni

Loose threads of silk,

いくつほつれ跡

ikutsu hotsure ato

many frayed remains.

昨日には戻せない

kinō ni wa modosenai

I can't restore them to yesterday.

ありしも過ぎしも流れてしまう

arishi mo sugishi mo nagarete shimau

What's past is past.

古びた艪を繕いて今日も更けゆく

furubita ro o tsukuroite kyō mo fuke yuku

When I repair the worn out oars, another day passes.

漕がない舟が波打つ淡海のほとり

koganai fune ga namiutsu awaumi no hotori

An unrowed boat bobs in the waves at the lakeside.

飛べない人も羽を負う

obenai hito mo ha o ou

A person who cannot fly also sports wings
