月夜の音楽はあなたに届かない

tsukiyo no ongaku wa anata ni todokanai

Music on a moonlit night doesn't reach you.

夜空に響いてもあなたには届かない

yozora ni hibiite mo anata ni wa todokanai

Though it echoes in the night sky, you don't get to hear it.

丘の向こうの竹やぶで

oka no mukō no takeyabu de

In the bamboo grove over the hill

月のうさぎの歌がする

tsuki no usagi no uta ga suru

the moon rabbit's song plays.

涙を集めて天の川　

namida o atsumete amanogawa

Tears gather but the Milky Way

涙も出ないよ月の夜

namida mo denai yo tsuki no yoru

sheds no tears on a night with a moon.

満月うさぎ泣き出した　

mangetsu usagi nakidashita

The full moon rabbit burst into tears.

まんまる夜中に泣き出した

manmaru yonaka ni nakidashita

Right in the middle of the night it burst into tears.

あんまり月が遠すぎて

anmari tsuki ga tōsugite

The moon is too far away

ふるさとに帰れない

furusato ni kaerenai

for it to return to its home.

満月うさぎ夢を見た

mangetsu usagi yume o mita

The full moon rabbit had a dream.

まんまる大きな夢を見た

manmaru ōkina yume o mita

It had big, round dream.

今夜は月が大きくて

kon'ya wa tsuki ga ōkikute

Because tonight the moon is big

ふるさとに届くから

furusato ni todoku kara

and it can reach its home.
