A totally blind girl

生まれてこの方　光を知らない

umarete kono kata hikari o shiranai

knows nothing of light since birth.

いつも独り　うつむいている

Itsumo hitori utsumuite iru

She is always alone with her eyes cast down.

光をいつか　見てみたいと

Hikari o itsuka mite mitai to

She says she wants to see light some day.

それはまるで　夢物語のようだ

Sore wa marude yumemonogatari no yō da

That seems like an empty dream.

睛眼の少年

Seigan no shōnen

A sighted boy

生まれてこの方　闇を知らない

umarete kono kata yami o shiranai

knows nothing of darkness since birth.

いつもからり　笑っている

Itsumo karari waratte iru

He is always smiling brightly.

今すぐ光を　見せようと

Ima sugu hikari o miseyō to

He says, I'll show you light right now.

少女の手を引き走る

Shōjo no te o hikihashiru

He takes her by the hand and runs.

「とっておきの　場所があるんだ

"Totteoki no basho ga aru n da

"I have a special place.

きっと君にも　映るだろう」

Kitto kimi ni mo utsuru darō"

Surely it will appear to you too."

暗闇が逃げ込んだ丘で　彼は指をさす

Kurayami ga nigekonda oka de kare wa yubi o sasu

At a hill where the darkness had fled to, he points with his finger,

少女はそれすら　見えないのに

Shōjo wa sore sura mienai no ni

though the girl does not even see it.

光咲く　夜空も

Hikari saku yozora mo

Even the night sky blooming with light

少女の　前ではただのユメ

shōjo no mae de wa tada no yume

is merely a dream before the girl.

こんなに光っていても　見えないのか

Konna ni hikatte'te mo mienai no ka

You can't see it though it shines like this?

少女は　知らない

Shōjo wa shiranai

The girl doesn't know it.

何故なぜだか　光は頬を伝う

Naze da ka hikari wa hoo o tsutau

She doesn't know why but light trickles down her cheeks,

それすら見えないのに

Sore sura mienai no ni

though she does not even see it.

全盲の少女

The totally blind girl

色の飽和した　世界を知らない

iro no hōwa shita sekai o shiranai

does not know the world saturated with colour.

いつもきらり　笑うようになる

Itsumo kirari warau yō ni naru

She always gets to smile brightly.

見えないままでいいと

Mienai mama de ii to

She says she doesn't have to see.

強がるでもなく　彼に笑いかける

Tsuyogaru de mo naku kare ni waraikakeru

She is not putting on a brave face as she smiles at him.

睛眼の少年

Seigan no shōnen

The sighted boy

色のない世界を　知らない

iro no nai sekai o shiranai

does not know a world without colour.

いつしか笑顔も忘れ

Itsushika egao mo wasure

Without realizing, he even forgets how to smile

意地でも連れて行くんだと

iji de mo tsurete yuku n da to

and says he's determined to take her.

夢物語に躍起になる

Yumemonogatari ni yakki ni naru

He becomes desperate with her dream.

「あそこまで行けば　きっときっと

"Asoko made ikeba kitto kitto

"If only you go as far as over there, surely, surely,

君にも映るだろう」

kimi ni mo utsuru darō"

it will appear to you too."

暗闇が溶け出した空に　彼は指をさす

Kurayami ga tokedashita sora ni kare wa yubi o sasu

He points his finger to the sky where the darkness had spread.

少女はそれすら　見えないのに

Shōjo wa sore sura mienai no ni

though the girl does even not see it.

光咲く　宇宙も

Hikari saku uchū mo

Even outer space blooming with light

少年の　前ではただのユメ

shōnen no mae de wa tada no yume

was merely a dream before the boy.

あんなに光っているのに　届かないのか

Anna ni hikatte iru no ni todokanai no ka

Though it shines that much, doesn't it get to him?

少年は　忘れた

Shōnen wa wasureta

The boy forgot.

何故なぜだか　光は頬を伝う

Naze da ka hikari wa hoo o tsutau

He doesn't know why but the light trickles down his cheeks,

それすら

Sore sura

even though …

夢を見すぎた　彼の眼が

Yume o misugita kare no me ga

His eyes that had dreamt too much

光をなくすまでに　そう時間もかからなかった

hikari o nakusu made ni sō jikan mo kakaranakatta

had not taken that much time before they lost their light.

気づくと何も　見えなくなっていた

Kizuku to nani mo mienaku natte ita

When he realized, he could see nothing.

空も自分も　少女さえも映らない

Sora mo jibun mo shōjo sae mo utsuranai

Neither the sky nor himself, not even the girl would appear to him.

「はじめから光を知らない

"Hajime kara hikari o shiranai

"You who don't know light from the very start

君には何も　わからないさ」

kimi ni wa nani mo wakaranai sa"

know nothing at all."

少女は見えない　ままでいいと

Shōjo wa mienai mama de ii to

The girl says she doesn't have to see.

強がるでもなく　彼に笑いかける

Tsuyogaru de mo naku kare ni waraikakeru

She is not putting on a brave face as she smiles at him.

少年は本当の理由を　忘れていた

Shōnen wa hontō no riyū o wasurete ita

The boy had forgotten the true reason.

本当の光を　忘れていた

Hontō no hikari o wasurete ita

He had forgotten the true light

少女は言う

Shōjo wa iu

The girl says,

「光ならもう　見つけたの」

"Hikari nara mō mitsuketa no"

"Light, is it? I've already found it."

is merely a dream before them both.

光は二人の　瞳を透過しない

Hikari wa futari no hitomi o tōka shinai

The light does not penetrate their eyes.

二人は知った

Futari wa shitta

They both found out

それでも光が　そばにいることを

sore de mo hikari ga soba ni iru koto o

that the light is still beside them,

二つの照らし合う星

futatsu no terashiau hoshi

two stars that illuminate each other.

眼には見えないけど

Me ni wa mienai kedo

Though they don't see it with their eyes.
