Round Sky

満点の星空の下　

manten no hoshizora no shita

Beneath the dotted starry sky

点と点を繋つないでく

ten to ten o tsunaide'ku

I connect one dot to the other.

時を越えて繋つながっていく　

toki o koete tsunagatte'ku

I look at the constellations

星座を見る

seiza o miru

that are connected across time.

小さく跳ねた子ウサギ　

chiisaku haneta kousagi

My eyes follow the leaping little hare,

双子の子とオリオン

futago no ko to orion

the children in the twins, Orion,

狩りをする猟犬達を見送って

kari o suru ryōken-tachi o miokutte

and the hounds on the hunt.

切り取った星空を　

kiritotta hoshizora o

My eyes ardently followed

ひたすら見送って

hitasura miokutte

clipped bits of the starry sky

物語を紡いでた

monogatari o tsumuide'ta

and I spun together a story.

回った星たちを　

mawatta hoshi-tachi o

I was so into counting the revolving stars

数えて時間も忘れるくらい

kazoete jikan mo wasureru kurai

that I even forgot the passage of time,

ずっと夢を見ては　

zutto yume o mite wa

and as I kept dreaming

星の数を数えた

hoshi no kazu o kazoeta

I counted how many stars there were.

巡った星たちは　

megutta hoshi-tachi wa

The turning stars

なぜだか鮮やかに煌めいて

nazedaka azayaka ni kirameite

somehow twinkle brilliantly,

ちょっと背伸びをして　

chotto senobi o shite

and I'm stretching up a bit,

変わり続ける空を見上げている

kawaritsuzukeru sora o miagete iru

looking up at the ever-changing sky.

曇天の日々を過ごす　

donten no hibi o sugosu

When spending time in cloudy weather

視界は曇っていた

shikai wa kumotte ita

my field of view was clouded.

時がたっていくほどに　

toki ga tatte iku hodo ni

The more time passes

ありふれてく

arifurete'ku

the more often it happens.

もう飛べない鳩の羽　

mō tobenai hato no hane

The wings of the dove that can't fly anymore,

流れる川にペルセウス

nagareru kawa ni Peruseusu

Perseus and the flowing river,

金の毛の牡羊達はもういない

kin no ke no ohitsuji-tachi wa mō inai

the ram with its golden fleece are no longer with me.

切り取った星空は　

kiritotta hoshizora wa

With the clipped bits of starry sky

どこかにしまったまま

dokoka ni shimatta mama

shut up somewhere,

物語はもう止まってる

monogatari wa mō tomatte'ru

the story has now stopped going anywhere.

回った星たちを　

mawatta hoshi-tachi o

I've been continuing to run all this time

数える時間も忘れるくらい

kazoeru jikan mo wasureru kurai

forgetting even the time that I spend

ずっと走り続けて　

zutto hashiritsuzukete

counting the revolving stars,

星の数を忘れた

hoshi no kazu o wasureta

that I've forgotten how many stars there are.

巡った星たちは　

megutta hoshi-tachi wa

The turning stars

なぜだか薄く消えていくから

nazedaka usuku kiete iku kara

are somehow fading away,

ちょっとため息して　

chotto tameiki shite

so I breathed a short sigh

変わり続ける空を遠ざけた

kawaritsuzukeru sora o tōzaketa

and kept my distance from the ever-changing sky.

覗きこんだ望遠鏡の中

nozokikonda bōenkyō no naka

In the telescope I peered through

星は前よりくすんで見えていて

hoshi wa mae yori kusunde miete ite

the stars look dimmer than before

あの頃見えてたはずの星空は

ano koro miete'ta hazu no hoshizora wa

so the starry sky I believed I had been seeing then,

どこに消えてしまったの

doko ni kiete shimatta no

where has it all disappeared to?

ずっと星たちは　

zutto hoshi-tachi wa

All the while I thought

同じ場所で僕らを照らしてる

onaji basho de bokura o terashite'ru

the stars would be shining

はずなのに　

hazu na no ni

down on us at the same place

変わってないのに

kawatte'nai no ni

even though they haven't changed.

回った星たちを　

mawatta hoshi-tachi o

Looking up at the revolving stars,

見上げて僕は立ち止まってた

miagete boku wa tachidomatte'ta

I've stopped still.

ずっと背伸びをして　

zutto senobi o shite

I've kept stretching up

上を向いていたんだ

ue o muite ita n da

and looking above.

巡った足跡を　

megutta ashiato o

I'll peer at my wandering footprints,

覗いて見えてきた星空で

nozoite miete kita hoshizora de

and in the starry sky that has come into view

そっと星をなぞり　

sotto hoshi o nazori

I'll quietly trace the stars

あの頃に戻ってみる

ano koro ni modotte miru

and go back to those days.

回った星たちを　

mawatta hoshi-tachi o

What shall I think

見上げた僕は何を思おう

miageta boku wa nani o omoō

as I look up at the revolving stars?

ちょっと近づいても　

chotto chikazuite mo

Even as I move a little closer,

変わることない空を見上げよう

kawaru koto nai sora o miageyō

I'll look up the sky that never changes.
