you said with a smile. You embarked towards the sky.

10年後にも、20年後にも、

Jūnengo ni mo, nijūnengo ni mo,

10 years later, even 20 years later,

あなたは帰ってこなかった。

anata wa kaette konakatta.

you hadn't returned.

これはとあるアンドロイドと博士のお話。

Kore wa toaru andoroido to hakase no ohanashi.

This is the story of a certain android and scientist.

博士は宇宙船で星を調査して、戻ってくるつもりだった。

Hakase wa uchūsen de hoshi o chōsa shite, modotte kuru tsumori datta.

The scientist planned to investigate a planet with a space ship and come back.

だがもう少しの所で小さな星と衝突してしまう。

Daga mō sukoshi no tokoro de chiisana hoshi to shōtotsu shite shimau.

However, he had a near collision with an asteroid.

博士は目的の星に不時着してしまった。

Hakase wa mokuteki no hoshi ni fujichaku shite shimatta.

The scientist had to make an emergency landing on the planet he sought.

10年経っても、帰れなかった。

Though 10 years pass, I can't return.

僕はこの星に閉じ込められている。

体のパーツを少しずつ機械へと交換して、寿命を伸ばすことにした。

やがて元の身体からだの部分はどんどん減っていき･･････

100年経っても、変わらない願い。

Though 100 years pass, my wish doesn't change.

"I want to see you again. I want to smile with you."

200年かけて、変わり果てた姿。

Nihyakunen kakete, kawarihateta sugata.

Taking 200 years, my form has changed completely.

変わらない場所で佇ただずんでる。

Kawaranai basho de tatazunde'ru.

The place I'm staying here won't change.

あなたはどこにいるの？あの約束は覚えてる？

The components of her body degrade.

彼女は博士を傍で見てきて覚えた技術で、自分の体を別のパーツと交換していった。

Kanojo wa hakase o soba de mite kite oboeta gijutsu de, jibun no karada o betsu no pātsu to kōkan shite itta.

Using the technology she learned by having watched the scientist by his side, she replaced her body with other components.

やがて元のパーツはどんどん減っていき･･････

Yagate moto no pātsu wa dondon hette iki ……

Soon her original components quickly diminished ……

1000年後、2人の体は、

After 1000 years, our bodies

全部、全部が変わり果てていた。

だけど変わらないあの願い。

目の光は失っちゃいない。

Me no hikari wa ushinatcha inai.

We haven't lost the light in our eyes.

再会した二人は笑った。

Saikai shita futari wa waratta.

When they were reunited, they both smiled.

「一目見ただけで分かったよ。

"Hitome mita dake de wakatta yo.

"I knew it with just a glance.

姿かたちは見違えたけど、

Sugatakatachi wa michigaeta kedo,

Although our appearance is unrecognizable,

あの日と同じ目をしていたよ。」

永遠に消えない流れ星。

果たしてどこまでが博士で、どこまでが彼女だったのだろう。

ともあれ、テセウスの船というパラドックスの1つの答えは、ここに示された。
