時には昔の話をしようか

toki ni wa mukashi no hanashi o shiyō ka

Shall we sometimes talk about the old days,

通いなれた　なじみのあの店

kayoinareta najimi no ano mise

that familiar shop where we used to go?

マロニエの並木が窓辺に見えてた

maronie no namiki ga madobe ni miete'ta

By the window, we could see rows of chestnut trees,

コーヒーを一杯で一日

kōhī o ippai de ichinichi

each day with it's cup of coffee.

見えない明日を　むやみにさがして

mienai ashita o muyami ni sagashite

Recklessly searching for an unseen tomorrow

誰もが希望をたくした

daremo ga kibō o takushita

where everyone entrusted their hopes.

ゆれていた時代の熱い風にふかれて

yurete ita jidai no atsui kaze ni fukarete

Blown by the hot wind of an unstable era,

体中で瞬間を感じた　そうだね

karadajū de toki o kanjita sō da ne

we felt the time throughout our bodies. Isn't that right?

道端で眠ったこともあったね

michibata de nemutta koto mo atta ne

Weren't there times we slept at the side of the road,

どこにも行けない　みんなで

doko ni mo ikenai minna de

all of us, with nowhere to go.

お金はなくても　なんとか生きてた

okane wa nakute mo nantoka ikite'ta

Although we had no money, we managed to survive,

貧しさが明日を運んだ

mazushisa ga ashita o hakonda

poverty bearing each passing day.

小さな下宿屋にいく人もおしかけ

chiisana geshukuya ni ikunin mo oshikake

So many of us would cram into a small lodgehouse,

朝まで騒いで眠った

asa made sawaide nemutta

rowdy until morning then falling asleep.

嵐のように毎日が燃えていた

arashi no yōni mainichi ga moete ita

Each day burned like a storm.

息がきれるまで走った　そうだね

iki ga kireru made hashitta sō da ne

We ran until we were out of breath. Isn't that right?

Look at that one photo that's left.

ひげづらの男は君だね

The man with the moustache is you, isn't it.

どこにいるのか今ではわからない

I don't know where you are now,

友達もいく人かいるけど

tomodachi mo ikuninka iru kedo

but some of our friends are still here.

あの日のすべてが空しいものだと

ano hi no subete ga munashii mono da to

That everything about those days was empty,

それは誰にも言えない

sore wa dare ni mo ienai

no one can utter words like that.

今でも同じように見果てぬ夢を描いて

ima demo onaji yō ni mihatenu yume o egaite

Even now, in the same way, chasing endless dreams,

走りつづけているよね　どこかで

hashiritsuzukete iru yo ne dokoka de

you keep on running … somewhere out there.
