KITE

街の交差点で　

Machi no kōsaten de

At an intersection in town,

ふと空を見上げてみたら

futo sora o miagete mitara

when I happened to look up at the sky,

白い雲がゆっくり

shiroi kumo ga yukkuri

white clouds were casually

青空の中　泳いでいた

aozora no naka oyoide'ta.

swimming in the blue sky.

高いビルが並ぶ　

Takai biru ga narabu

In a place like this where tall buildings

こんな所じゃ立ち尽くしても

konna tokoro ja tachitsukushite mo

line up, though I stand completely still,

何も変わらない　

nani mo kawaranai

nothing changes.

ただ空しさ感じるだけ

Tada munashisa kanjiru dake

The only thing I feel is emptiness.

水色の空　こんなに広い

Mizuiro no sora konna ni hiroi

The day I felt that the blue sky

世界なんだと感じた日

sekai na n da to kanjita hi

is a world as wide as this.

この街から自転車で抜け出そう

Kono machi kara jitensha de nukedasō

I'll cycle away from this town.

爽やかな空気を今　吸い込もう

sawayaka na kūki o ima suikomō

I'll now breathe in fresh air.

鼻歌でも歌いながら進もう

Hanauta de mo utainagara susumō

While humming a song I'll move forward.

旅をしよう　時間さえ　もう忘れて

Tabi o shiyō Jikan sae mō wasurete

I'll go an a journey. I've already even lost track of the time.

道端に咲いてる　

Michibata ni saite'ru

Blooming onthe side of the road,

たったひとつの小さな花

tatta hitotsu no chiisana hana

a sole, small flower

雨や風に負けず

ame ya kaze ni makezu

undefeated by rain and wind

一生懸命生きている

isshōkenmei ikite iru

lives life with everything it's got.

世界で一人　地球で一人の

Sekai de hitori chikyū de hitori no

The only me in the world, the only me on the earth,

僕がこうして生きている

boku ga kō shite ikite iru

I'm living in the same way.

ゆっくり進もう　長い長い道を

Yukkuri susumō nagai nagai michi o

I'll move forward at my own pace along this long, long road.

ありのままに　やりたい事をやろうよ

Arinomama ni yaritai koto o yarō yo

I'll do what I honestly want to do.

自分で歩こう　目に見えない道

Jibun de arukō me ni mienai michi

I'll walk by myself, this unseen road.

ウソついても　何も実らないだろう

Uso tsuite mo nani mo minoranai darō

Even if I tell a lie, it will bear no fruit.

太陽が僕を見下ろしている

Taiyō ga boku o mioroshite iru

The sun is gazing down at me.

白い雲が今光と交わった

Shiroi kumo ga ima hikari to majiwatta

White clouds have now mingled with the light.

小さい時　同じ空に飛ばした

Chiisai toki onaji sora ni tobashita

When I was a little, I flew one, in the same sky,

あの大きな翼のない凧のように･･･

ano ōkina tsubasa no nai tako no yō ni …

just like that huge wingless kite …
