One day Papa said to me,

“Ichinichi no hajimari no aisatsu wa

“The greeting you say at the start of the day

きっと毎日を笑顔で過ごせる

kitto mainichi o egao de sugoseru

is surely a magic charm

魔法のおまじないだ」

that let's you spend each day with a smile.”

ある日ママが僕に言いました

Aru hi Mama ga boku ni iimashita

One day Mama said to me,

「ご飯を食べる前の挨拶は

“Gohan o taberu mae no aisatsu wa

“The words you say before you have a meal

そっと幸せを噛みしめるための

sotto shiawase o kamishimeru tame no

are a magic spice

魔法のスパイスだよ」

mahō no supaisu da yo”

that let you softly bite into happiness.”

言葉と言葉が巡り合って

Kotoba to kotoba ga meguriatte

Word meets word

この世界を作り上げているから

kono sekai o tsukuriagete iru kara

and thus fabricates this world. Therefore:

「おはよう」の数だけ「おやすみなさい」

“Ohayō” no kazu dake “Oyasuminasai”

For every “Good morning” a “Good night”.

「いただきます」の数だけ「ごちそうさま」

“Itadakimasu” no kazu dake “Gochisōsama”

For every “Dig in!” a “Thanks for the meal”.

いくつもの言葉が響き合って

Ikutsumo no kotoba ga hibikiatte

Many words resound with each other

いくつもの言葉が生まれてるよ

ikutsumo no kotoba ga umarete'ru yo

and thus many words come into being.

ある日パパが僕に言いました

「ケンカをしたあとの挨拶は

“Kenka o shita ato no aisatsu wa

“The words you say after an argument

that always let you stay friends.”

「おうちに帰るときの挨拶は

“O-uchi ni kaeru toki no aisatsu wa

“The greetings we say when coming home

疲れた心に明かりを灯すような

tsukareta kokoro ni akari o tomosu yō na

are a magic switch

魔法のスイッチなのよ」

that lights a light in our tired hearts.”

言葉と言葉がすれ違って

Kotoba to kotoba ga surechigatte

Word clashes with word

傷ついたり悲しむこともあるけど

kizuttsuitari kanashimu koto mo aru kedo

and can hurt and sadden. However:

「ごめんね」の数だけ「ごめんなさい」

“Gomen ne” no kazu dake “Gomen nasai”

For every “I'm Sorry” a “Sorry too”.

「ただいま」の数だけ「おかえりなさい」

“Tadaima” no kazu dake “Okaerinasai”

For every “I'm back” a “Welcome home”.

何気ない言葉を重ね合って

Nanigenai kotoba o kasaneatte

Casual word after word comes together

何気ない毎日つくってるよ

nanigenai mainichi tsukutte'ru yo

and builds a carefree day every day.
