when from the shadow of a telegraph pole

針金みたく枯れた指が

harigane mitaku kareta yubi ga

a wiry withered finger

おいでおいでと手招けば

beckoned, "Come, come."

けぶる朝霧に考えた

keburu asagiri ni kangaeta

I considered it on a hazy, misty morning

水平の消えた池の淵

suihei no kieta ike no fuchi

when from the depths of a lake whose edge was lost to sight

蛞蝓みたく融けた脚が

namekuji mitaku toketa ashi ga

a slug-like half-melted foot

おいでおいでと足踏みを

oide oide to ashibumi o

was tapping the ground as if to say, "Come, come."

すれば彼方あちらに渡れるの？

sureba achira ni watareru no?

Are you able to cross over?

むくろに愛を閉じ込めましょう

mukuro ni ai o tojikomemashō

Let's lock love up in a corpse,

いしに希望を　つぼには夢を

ishi ni kibō o tsubo ni wa yume o

hope in a stone, dreams in a pot.

つめこむ数が多いほど

tsumekomu kazu ga ōi hodo

The more we cram in,

きっときっと幸せになる

kitto kitto shiawase ni naru

surely surely the happier we'll be.

when in a gap between rusty railway track screws

釣り針みたく伸びた顔が

tsuribari mitaku nobita kao ga

a stretched face resembling a fish hook

おいでおいでと瞬けば

oide oide to mabatakeba

winked as if to say, "Come, come."

しずむ夕焼けに考えた

shizumu yūyake ni kangaeta

I considered it in the glow of the setting sun

過ぎ去る名も知れぬ群衆から

sugisaru na mo shirenu gunshū kara

when from a passing, nameless crowd

糸みたく絡む声が

ito mitaku karamu koe ga

a voice like tangled yarn

おいでおいでと囁けば

oide oide to sasayakeba

whispered, "Come, come."

彼方あしたの世界に渡れるの？

ashita no sekai ni watareru no?

Are you able to cross over to yonder world of tomorrow?

白い残骸にゃ残らない

shiroi zangai nya nokoranai

none remain in the blank ruins of life.

箱の中迎えるおしまいに

At the ending that you will face inside a box,
