早い放課後のチャイム　

hayai hōkago no chaimu

The chime at the end of the school day,

三年を告げる音が鳴り響く

sannen o tsugeru oto ga narihibiku

a sound that marks three years, rings out early.

見慣れたはずの桜が　

minareta hazu no sakura ga

The cherry blossoms I thought I was used to seeing

いつもより騒がしく色づく

itsumo yori sawagashiku irozuku

are coloured more wildly than usual.

誰かが締め忘れた　廊下の

dareka ga shimewasureta rōka no

Someone had forgotten to shut the corridor's …

窓を埋める花びらが　

mado o umeru hanabira ga

windows, now filled with petals

イタズラな風に唆されてる

itazura na kaze ni sosonokasarete'ru

that are enticed by the playful wind,

隙間から零れてた　

sukima kara koborete'ta

capturing the colour of cherry blossoms

日差しに留まる桜色

hizashi ni todomaru sakurairo

in the sunlight spilling through the gaps.

見慣れたはずの校舎が　

minareta hazu no kōsha ga

The school buildings I thought I was used to seeing

なぜだか今日は特別に映って

naze da ka kyō wa tokubetsu ni utsutte

today for some reason appear special,

随分狭い歩幅で　

zuibun semai hohaba de

so taking very small steps

下駄箱までの階段を下った

getabako made no kaidan o kudatta

I descended the stairs to the shoe racks.

校門までの並木は　･･･キレイだ

kōmon made no namiki wa … kirei da

The trees lining the way to the school gate … are pretty.

遥か空に見えていた　

haruka sora ni miete ita

Though they could be seen far off in the sky

桜色に手を伸ばせば届く

sakurairo ni te o nobaseba todoku

if I reach out, my hands can touch the cherry blossom colour.

敷き詰めた絨毯じゅうたんを　

shikitsumeta jūtan o

I step on the spread out carpet

散らさないように踏み出した

chirasanai yō ni fumidashita

so as not to disturb it.
