月のない夜道を

tsuki no nai yomichi o

On a moonless night,

ひとり歩いて帰る

hitori aruite kaeru

I walk the street home alone.

風は南寄りで

kaze wa minamiyori de

The southerly wind

家の匂いを運んでる

ie no nioi o hakonde'ru

carries the scent of home.

こんな夜空には星が

konna yozora ni wa hoshi ga

Don't they say that on a night like this

見えるんじゃないかと

mieru n ja nai ka to

you can see the stars in the sky?

見上げてみたけど街灯で

miagete mita kedo gaitō de

I tried looking up but thanks to the street lights

何も見えない

nani mo mienai

I couldn't see a thing.

誰の目に見えなくっても

dare no me ni mienakutte mo

Though no eye can see them,

星は空にあるのだろうか

hoshi wa sora ni aru no darō ka

are the stars really there in the sky?

見えない星は今でも

mienai hoshi wa ima de mo

Are the unseen stars

輝いているだろうか

kagayaite iru darō ka

really still shining now?

子供の頃通った

kodomo no koro kayotta

When I was a child, I used to go

プラネタリウムの天井

puranetariumu no tenjō

to the planetarium.

天の川や星座は

amanogawa ya seiza wa

I enjoyed the Milky Way and constellations

キラキラして楽しかったのに

kirakira shite tanoshikatta no ni

sparkling on the ceiling.

大人になるってことは

otona ni naru tte koto wa

Yet growing up

楽しいことばかりじゃない

tanoshii koto bakari ja nai

isn't all pleasant things.

叶えたかった夢が何かも

kanaetakatta yume ga nani ka mo

All the dreams I wanted to fulfil

忘れてしまう

wasurete shimau

I end up forgetting.

誰の目に見えなくっても

dare no me ni mienakutte mo

Though no eye can see them,

星は空にあるのだろうか

hoshi wa sora ni aru no darō ka

are the stars really there in the sky?

見えない星は遠くで

mienai hoshi wa tōku de

Are the unseen stars

輝いているだろうか

kagayaite iru darō ka

really there shining far away?

曇った電車の窓

kumotta densha no mado

On the fogged up train window

指で描いた北斗七星

yubi de kaita hokutoshichisei

I drew The Big Dipper with my finger.

真昼の空の向こうにも

mahiru no sora no mukō ni mo

Beyond the daytime sky

星はいつでも輝いている

hoshi wa itsudemo kagayaite iru

the stars are always shining.

誰も見ていないときも

dare mo mite inai toki mo

Even when no one is watching,

いつも光り続ける

itsumo hikaritsuzukeru

they always continue to shine their light.

きっと光り続ける

kitto hikaritsuzukeru

Surely they continue to shine their light.
